What is Kratom?

Kratom is a tropical tree in the coffee family that is endemic to Southeast Asia and has the Latin name Mitragyna speciosa . The indigenous people of Southeast Asia have been using its leaves for centuries.

This plant has so many different active ingredients that it is difficult to assign it to a specific use.

All of Kratom’s effects are based on two main compounds: mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. 

In the Kratom community, the differences between the different strains are not categorized by the colors of the leaves, but by the colors of the veins in the leaves. The main categories are red vein, green vein, and white vein. Here are the typical differences:

Red Vein:

Characteristics: The veins of the leaves are red and the leaves may have a darker color.

Green Vein:

Characteristics: The veins of the leaves are green and the leaves can be medium colored.
